Dennis_TennisonLots of suppositions included. Many of those researching Joseph H Dennis' lineage believe him to be the son of Jesse Dennis, born 1803 and Jesse's father to be Samuel G Dennis Jr. There is a lot of information that would seem to solidify that, but I have never seen any direct evidence that removes all doubt. It seems our Dennis family actually has direct links to the Tennison family from St. Charles, MD. This brings into question many assumptions we have made over the years about our ancestors, primarily the connection to the Samuel G Dennis father and son. Based upon my DNA results, it would seem our Dennis line began with the sons of John Tennison of Caswell Co, NC. John had five sons. When these sons migrated to Overton Co, TN they changed their name to Dennis. Don't know why, clerical errors maybe or could have been intentional. This is a 'WHAT IF' look at a connection to the Tennison family of St. Charles, MD. Instead of our belief that we are descended from Samuel G Dennis Jr and his father Sam Sr I have, for speculative purposes, connected Jesse Dennis to Samuel Dennis (born ca 1766), son of John Sims Tennison. Since DNA has given me the begining of our family line and we know the end, whatever suppositions I make here by injecting a middle man, they are factually more correct that our earlier research. At any rate more research is necessary to find the elusive individual that connects us to the Tennison branch of our family. Anything related to Joseph H Dennis and his descendents is well known. The connection of Joseph to Jesse Dennis and Jesse to Samuel Dennis/Tennison is NOT verified. I present it only as a possibilty.
