    • This Andrew and family located in Montgomery County, North Carolina. Family Tree DNA Group 1. Newest user, John Allen Dennis, is from this line.

      Served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and also in the War of 1812 as a seventy-some year old.
      From the Montgomery County, North Carolina Heritage Book (entry 439 by David McLean Dennis):
      The man recognized as the father of the family in the Montgomery County was Andrew Dennis who was born in the mid 1730's. He lived most of his life on lands around the Uwharrie and lower Yadkin rivers. He served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War and when in his late 70's went back into service to fight in the War of 1812. The story has been passed down through the generations that his call to service in the War of 1812 came about when an American officer and his men saw him skating on the frozen Uwharrie River with a group of young men and boys. His lean frame and suppleness inspired the officer to ask him to join the Nation's fight against the British. Andrew Joined the Army once more and served until the end of the war. He returned to his home near the mouth of the Uwharrie River and lived several more years until his death at the age of 94. He is buried in the Old Prospect Church Cemetery about three miles south of Uwharrie.

      NOTE from John:

      I am a Dennis. I trace back to Andrew Dennis (abt 1738-1832), birth location unknown, married Martha (?) (born 1756?), had three sons: Andrew Jr. (abt 1780-1850), Jesse (1785-1850), and James Frances (Jimmie) (1798-1869). Andrew Dennis, Sr. died in Montgomery County, North Carolina, Jul 1832 and is buried in the Prospect Church cemetery.

      Montgomery County is in South Central part of NC. Quite a ways from Caswell County where our Dennis line lived.
