- Abraham, Sr. (b. 1730) moved the family ca. 1768 from St. Mary's Co., MD to Edgecomb Co., NC. Before 1790 Abraham Tennison, Jr. (b. 1760) moved his family to Rowan Co., NC. Other sons of Abraham, Sr. moved to Davison Co., TN; Rutherford Co., TN; Williamson Co., TN; and Cherokee Co., AL. [Family of researcher, Faye Tennyson Davidson]
"Abraham Tennison, JR was a soldier in the American Revolution; Rank of Private in the North Carolina line. In the war of 1812, he served with his sons, Solomon and Edmund in the 2nd Regiment of Captain Isaiah Renshaw's Company of Tennessee Volunteers from December 10, 1812 for 12 months. The uniforms of officers and men were hunting shirts of domestic trimmed with cotton and theirs were rifles. Tennissions who participated in the ranks were know as 'Mountain Boys of the Blue Ridge in Allegheny Chain." [Info fr: Melvin V. Note that Abraham names a female as James Hilton's wife. All the females children are listed and this author attempted locate this additional descendant. Some have a Sarah Jane Tennison b. 1826. The birthdate is wrong for her to be listed as a married woman in will of 1825. I have included her but left birth date unknown
Will of April 25, 1825:
Rutherford Co.,TN Abraham Tennison
to wife Jane - my plantation with all property that I have, to hold during her life or widowhood, except such as shall hereafter name to any children
3rd I gave to my wife JANE her bed and furniture and two cows to her to dispose of as she pleases and my Nell mare. And my children, that have left me, I have given them their share, which is CORNELIUS BRANDON's wife and SAMUEL FULK's wife and HUGH CARNAHAN's wife, and SOLOMON and EDMUND TENNUSON and JAMES HILTON's WIFE, I have given her share.
And I give my daughter Nancy ADAMS one bay horse called Peter and one cow and calf and her bed and furniture.
And my plantation I now live on I allow to be equally divided between my sons HIRAM and ARCHIBALD and to cast lots for choice, and I give unto my son HIRAM on Sorrel mare called Stockings, and one stud colt called Rinard and what he make on planation, to be his own except what goes to the sport of of my wife and family.
and I give my son ARCHIBALD one grey mare Dull, one cow and calf and one bed and furniture, and at my wife's death, I allow my son HiIRAM to have all the property that I have not named to do with as he pleases. And lastly I ordain my son SOLOMON TENNISON and ALEXANDER LORANCE, Executor of this my last will and testament. ......
