  • Notes
    • Mark's widow, Elizabeth married on 16 March 1792 in Mason County, Kentucky, to Caleb Asbury, John Rains signed as bondsman. Caleb Asbury had appeared in the Fauquier County, Virginia 1787 tax list and the name is also in the Stokes County, North Carolina 1790 census. Apparently, Caleb and Elizabeth did not live together for very long. Elizabeth appears to have used both surnames, Kenton or Asbury, whichever name suited her purposes at the time. She did not use the surname Asbury in the following tax lists: 1794, 1795, 1796, 1797, 1799, or 1800 (the tax paid may have been on the land that was Mark Kenton's bounty lands) She also used the surname Kenton in the Nicholas County, Kentucky tax lists 1802 through 1805. Two land deed records, Nicholas County, Kentucky (Book A) are of interest: "Elizabeth Kenton Asbury, widow of Mark Kenton, deceased, Edmund Collins and Sally Collins his wife, first part, of Mason County, and Simon Kenton of the second part, of Hamilton County, Northwest Territory" dated 21 October 1801 (page 84) and "Elizabeth Kenton Asbury, widow of Mark Kenton, deceased, Edmund Collins and Sally Kenton Collins his wife, first part, of Mason County, and Robert Combs, of the second part, of Fauquier County, Virginia," dated 12 October 1801 (page 87).
